Volunteering at the National Library of Laos October 2015.
In October of 2015 I had the opportunity to go to the National Library of Laos for two weeks, to conduct conservation work, teach, and help set up the Indochina Rare Book Collection Conservation (IRBCC). Some of the things that were accomplished were setting up a database for the books in the collection by recording them individually. The first week was spent giving the library total clean, its shelves and brush down of all the books. The staff helped with this process as there are many many books. Some of them were in quite bad disrepair, also there were quite a few books that had bad insect damage see below...
The second week was spend educating staff about the bookbinding process for a better understanding of book repair and also conserving books that were chosen by the Library to be worked on.

Overall this was a successful trip having cleaned up the IRBC Library, recording books, educating staff, and undertaking conservation work on selected books.
Thank you to our sponsor from Sydney Rare Book Auctions for giving the Library a chance to be worked on as well as giving us the opportunity to help.
